Mike Lee’s solo exhibition ‘Fishbowl’ will open this week on January 26th at Sifang Art Museum in Shanghai. The exhibition will feature Lee’s most recent works made specifically for the show and will be on view through February 29th, 2024.
Mike Lee blurs the line between figuration and abstraction through his stylistic approach to portraits, still lifes, and landscapes. The artist has cultivated an aesthetic created from monochromatic palette of grayscale over the years, which now became iconic across his oeuvre. As once a digital animator, the artist taught himself oil painting and creates a graphically rendered impression solely by his meticulous brushstrokes. Lee’s emotionally charged canvases with a complex narrative device reflect the way our memory works that is in constant flux in relative to the present in the most innocent but powerful manner.
