Jason Haam is pleased to present Shadows Know, the first solo exhibition in South Korea by artist duo Carla Arocha and Stéphane Schraenen, on view from November 15, 2025, through January 31, 2026 at Jason Haam New Gallery. Since their first collaboration at Kunsthalle Bern in 2004, Arocha and Schraenen have continued their artistic practice for over two decades, exploring the perceptual and spatial relationships between subject and object, artwork and viewer, through site-specific installations.
Migrating Wasp Nest (2024) from 2024 Busan Biennale to Seoul, the exhibition reiterates the parasitic nature of the installation within the new context of Jason Haam Gallery. And in doing so it also brought along its shadow in the form a wallpaper titled Shadows Know (2025). The third work in the exhibition is titled Target (2012), in which, two nearly invisible bullseyes merge into a dual target.
In the Exhibition, Wasp Nest fills the gallery with metal-framed plexiglass panels reminiscent of surveillance windows. As the mirrored surface distorts and refracts light of the space and the viewers, the work blurs the boundaries between seeing and being seen. Expanding through the gallery like a living organism, it invites viewers to engage with the space, cultivating a heightened awareness of perception and presence.

제이슨함 갤러리는 2025년 11월 15일부터 2026년 1월 31일까지 신관(성북로 350-4)에서 카를라 아로차와 스테판 슈라넨의 한국에서의 첫 개인전 Shadows Know 그림자는 알고 있다 전시를 개최한다. 2004년 스위스 쿤스트할레 베른(Kunsthalle Bern)에서의 첫 협업을 시작으로 20여 년간 공동의 예술 활동을 이어오고 있는 아티스트 듀오 아로차와 슈라넨은 주체와 대상, 작품과 관람객 사이에서 발생하는 상호작용의 모호성과 공간적 맥락에 주목하며, 주로 장소 특정적 설치 작업을 선보인다.
이번 전시에서 두 작가는 2024 부산비엔날레에서 부산현대미술관 1층에 설치되었던 수백 개의 창문형 조형물들로 구성된 대형 설치 작업 Wasp Nest (2024)를 제이슨함 신관의 공간에 맞춰 재구성하여 선보인다. 또한 회화 작업 Target (2012)과 Wasp Nest의 그림자를 벽지 형태로 옮긴 신작 Shadows Know (2025) 또한 함께 전시함으로써, 서로 다른 작업들이 하나의 공간 안에서 상호 반사되고 중첩되는 경험을 의도한다.
갤러리 전체를 가득 채운 설치 작업 속에서 마치 감시창을 연상시키는 금속 프레임 구조의 플렉시 글라스에 의해 빛은 왜곡되고 굴절된다. 이는 작품이 마치 벌집처럼 전시 공간을 점유하고 스스로가 확장되는 듯한 감각을 만들어낸다. 갤러리를 점유하고 있는 작품 속에서 관람객은 자신이 감시당하고 있다는 인식과 동시에 무언가를 감시하고 있다는 모순적인 감각을 경험하게 된다.
