Nude, Flesh, and Love

Jason Haam is pleased to present Nude, Flesh, and Love, a group exhibition on view from August 30 to October 25, 2025, at its newly expanded venue. The exhibition brings together works by sixteen artists of different generations and cultural backgrounds who explore the theme of the nude: Amanda Baldwin, HyeGyeong Choi, John Currin, Urs Fischer, Jonathan Gardner, HAN Jihyoung, Jungwook Kim, Cindy Ji Hye Kim, Mike Lee, Moka Lee, SeungAe Lee, Sarah Lucas, Nora Maité Nieves, Daniel Sinsel, Emily Mae Smith, and Issy Wood.

The nude has long been a significant subject in art. However, the way it is viewed and depicted has evolved alongside changing historical contexts and artistic perspectives. Some artists approach the body as an object of desire and eroticism, while others use it to expose the structure of the gaze and underlying power dynamics. The body serves both as a means of expressing identity and a shell for concealing it. Constantly transformed through wounds and aging, it reveals the inherent fragility and imperfection of human existence—reflecting traces of absence and vanity. At times, it is simply consumed as a marketable image.

Although the participating artists differ in temperament, gender, nationality, generation, and artistic approach, they share a common thread. Through refined mastery of material and technique, each artist articulates their own vision of ideal beauty. Revisiting a classical subject through their unique gaze and sensibility, they explore the fundamental beauty of the human form and the emotional depth it contains— attachment, desire, and the feeling of love. Ultimately, the exhibition contemplates what it means to look, to feel, and to share the curiosity toward body, perception, and presence.

제이슨함 갤러리는 오는 8월 30일부터 10월 25일까지 제이슨함 신관에서 열리는 전시 《Nude, Flesh, and Love》를 통해 김정욱, 김지혜(Cindy Ji Hye Kim), 이목하, 이승애, 최혜경, 한지형, Amanda Baldwin, John Currin, Urs Fischer, Jonathan Gardner, Mike Lee, Sarah Lucas, Nora Maité Nieves, Emily Mae Smith, Daniel Sinsel, Issy Wood 등 다양한 세대와 문화적 배경을 지닌 16명의 작가가 그려낸 누드 작품을 선보인다.

누드는 미술에서 오랜 시간 동안 주요한 주제로 다뤄져 왔다. 그러나 이를 바라보는 시선과 표현 방식은 시대적 맥락과 작가의 관점에 따라 달라져 왔다. 누군가는 육체를 욕망과 성애의 대상으로 바라보고, 또 누군가는 시선의 구조와 권력 관계를 드러내는 장치로 활용한다. 신체는 정체성을 드러내는 도구임과 동시에 스스로의 정체성을 가리는 껍데기로 사용되며, 상처와 노화로 인해 끊임 없이 변화하는 신체가 보여주는 인간 존재의 불완전하고 약한 모습과, 이로 인해 보여지는 결핍과 혀영이 드러나기도 한다. 혹은 단지 잘 팔리는 이미지로 소비되기도 한다.

이번 전시에 참여한 작가들은 성향, 성별, 국적, 세대, 작업 방식 등 서로 다른 정체성을 지니고 있지만, 그럼에도 불구하고 공통적으로 향하는 지점이 있다. 작가들은 소재와 재료를 다루는데 필요한 기술적 완성도를 기반으로, 각자가 추구하는 이상적인 아름다움을 만들어낼 수 있는 능력을 작품을 통해 증명하고자 한다. 다소 고전적인 주제를 본인의 시선과 감각으로 재해석하고, 인간 신체의 본질적인 아름다움과 그것이 담고 있는 감정의 층위를 이야기하며, 직설적으로 육체에 대한 관심과 끌림, 그리고 사랑이라는 감정까지도 건드린다. 살에 대한 호기심, 그것을 바라보는 시선, 그리고 결국 우리 모두가 공유하고 있는 인간적인 감각에 대해 말하고자 한다.
